Under 18's to play away at Sale CC Tuesday 16th June 6pm start all welcome!

Let's hope they can build on the great win of last week at home against Newton Heath CC as Nathan Bailey and Simon Bowers finished the match off in style reaching the required runs with an over to spare!

U13's narrowly missed out at Home vs Whalley Range: A very good match played in the right spirit and again going to the wire. For Wythenshawe, a good bowling effort from Luke Hibbert who got 4-17 from 4o, Sam Grant, Leon Richie, J Dickens. Batting wise, Jonathan Scott and Liam Dodd(another consistent performance) for retiring not out on 30 each and to Adam and Luke for solid batting.

U9's: In an exciting match played on a lovely sunny evening, WCC U9's gave Urmston a run for their money as each player worked tirelessy in trying to keep Urmston to below the required runs set by WCC U9's, Both teams playing at WCC's ground (hosting Urmston's home fixture) in a good even match, teams enjoyed the encouraging crowd of well wishers from both sides and good performances came from both young teams. Well done to Urmston and also to WCC for a strong attempt to try win the match. Urmston won out with 260 for 4 wickets, WCC reaching 249 for 3 wickets.

U9's are playing at Brooklands CC on Wednesday at 6pm all welcome!

U9's & U18's Results

On a Sunny Monday evening WCC U9's battled away against a strong Stretford U9's side, some good batting again from Joe Murphy added to WCC's runs, but a loss of a few wickets meant that WCC's total of 206 runs (net) was not too hard to acheive by the Stretford visitors.
In our team this week new comer Caitlin tried hard in her first match and I am sure will soon get the hang of overarm bowling, Lauren also worked hard running in the field with Jacob Rawding putting in good display of bowling. Rimmon arrived a little late so was unable to show his prowess at batting yet showed with his bowling performance why he is well on the way to becoming a good little cricketer. Joshua and Jack ran their socks off in the field, Tom Robinson was very athletic in his stint as Wicket Keeper and managed to stand still for most of the match!!! All in all WCC U9's had fun! even though they didn't win they all came off smiling...well done all.

Tuesday 2nd June away at Didsbury saw a defiant WCC U18's side hammer out a fantastic knock of 149 for 5 wickets, Ryan Burgess again was the top scorer for WCC with 42 runs, Kyle Murphy 39 runs, Martin Leonard 28 runs and Simon Bowers on 23 runs. Didsbury looked all but defeated as they came out to bat chasing one of the highest scores hit by WCC U18's in a 20/20 over match. Defeated however they were not! as Didsbury came out in aggressive style hitting out at every ball, frustration showing on WCC bowlers as they worked hard and tirelessly to uproot the wickets of Didsbury's top scorer Max Drakeley who mustered up a whopping 72 runs! If it wasn't for the slow paced spin bowling of Simon Bowers who took all of Didsbury's 5 wickets (Well done Simon!) Mr. Drakeley could easily have acheived his century. As Didsbury reached the required total of 150 to win the game with only one over remaining.

Wythenshawe U18's are to be commended on such a fantastic score, yet comiserated also on not being able to seal the match, bowlers and fielding positions will possibly be some of the points for concern raised from this match.

WCC U9'S & U18'S First wins of their season!

Lindow CC U9's and Stockport Georgians CC U18's were both hit for "six" by WCC on a Rainy/Sunny evening on Tuesday!

WCC U18's Ryan Burgess gave a match winning performance with his 59 not out, as Stockport were left looking for the ball in the undergrowth a few times after a couple of whopping sixes!! With 2 wickets from Nathan Bailey off 4 overs for 11 runs & 2 maidens, Georgians never really looked as if they were going to bowl our lads out for the total they had set at 115 for 7 wickets.
Well done all under 18's as there was a lot of excellent tight fielding to secure WCC U18's first 2009 season win! Didsbury next away on Tuesday 2nd June...All welcome 6pm start!

WCC U9's coached on Tuesday by Lee Booth, also fought hard to win away at Lindow on a similar rainy/chilly/sunny Tuesday evening this week, Lindow's coach Dave Nelson emailed me to make sure I mention his "Man of the Match" Joe Murphy, who I believe was an "enthusiastic and skilled" player. Well done Joe who is in his last year at U9's, all the hard work and practise has paid off!! Special mention goes also to all the new players who have joined WCC this year as some of them have never played cricket before and are coming on in leaps and bounds!!!

WCC U9's total was 247 for 3 wickets and Lindow replied with 224 for 6 wickets, U9's next game is on Monday 1st June at home versus Stretford....All welcome 6pm start!

Hi everyone!! Thought I would create a blog page for all the news, reviews, any special events etc for Wythenshawe Cricket Club's Junior section.....I will try update each day and hopefully we will build up a good following of interested supporters of our cricket club.
The news section of Play cricket was a little too small for some of our stories!!
