WCC Jnr's recent results...

All the WCC Junior sides have been working hard to improve their placings in the League and also getting fired up for the SMJCL Cup matches, recent results follow:

U11's

U11's last match against Lindow abandoned RAIN (6/6/10)
U11's won away at Hale Barns by 5 wickets, strong batting again from Azure Wilkinson with 25 retired not out also taking 2 wickets for 3 runs, Jack Roberts scoring 22 runs, Josh Phillips getting a creditable 15 runs a great team performance by all. (23/5/10)

Previously U11's secured a fantastic first win against local rivals Didsbury, Azure & Owen Lewis both retiring on 25 runs and Jack Roberts scoring 22 runs and taking 3 great wickets to secure WCC's win by 27 runs. (16/5/10)

U13's
U13's last match against Woodford was a real thriller...both sides hit by the 1/2 term break saw some of their regular U13's away on holidays, so some of our U11's were drafted in to help, ALL the players from both sides played well, read Ben Corrie's match summary on:
http://wythenshawe.play-cricket.com/scoreboard/scorecard.asp?id=11032581

Vaughn taking 4 wickets for 21 runs and retiring not out on 30, Ryan Booth also retired not out on 31 and Ross getting an LBW on 28..all the U11's who played 'up' in 13's gave a great account of themselves. (5/6/10)
Previously U13's had a resounding success over Timperley as our lads trounced them all out for only 29 runs off 11.2 overs, Ross Crowther taking the match ball with an amazing 5 wickets for 5 runs haul!! WCC didn't have to stay at the crease for long to roll out the required runs to seal a very easy walkover...Well done All! (28/5/10)
Two weeks previously U13's had sealed another win over local rivals Didsbury winning by 6 wickets, Ross Crowther (30 rtd) and Ryan Booth (18) putting on the runs for WCC, chasing Didsbury's total of 83, some excellent fielding and bowling saw Didsbury have to work really hard to reach 83, wickets falling for Ross (2) Vaughn (2) Jai Arora (1) Jont Scott (1) and Sam Grant (1) WCC's batsmen chased every ball and sealed the win with just 2 balls left!! Great effort lads.
Not such good luck in the cup! U13's losing to Bowdon by 2 runs!! Hard Luck lads you ALL played great and we all thought we were so close to a victory...next time eh?

U15's
Mixed bag for WCC's U15's, with 3 of their scheduled 7 matches so far being abandoned for rain or wet pitches!!
There is some joy though as U15's had a great win at Ashley CC (2/5/10) winning by 28 runs, Adam Marsden (15) and Michael Taylor (19) getting the majority of WCC's runs, Adam, Jont and Leon getting 2 wickets each to ensure the U15's snatched their first win of the season.
Losing 3 of the 4 matches actually played sees the U15's mid table at this point in the season...lets hope the weather bucks up and they can start getting to actually PLAY some cricket!!

U18's
Fantastic news so far...sees U18's holding joint 3rd place in the league on 15 points with Romiley & Stockport Georgians...an amazing start for our development 18's squad captained by Martin Leonard, has seen the lads secure 3 wins, 1 tie and 3 losses to deservedly stand in 3rd place.
Match against Woodford (see previous blog) was an amazing feat, yet we were to be treated to yet another thriller on Tuesday 8th June as we took on Stockport Georgians at home, after a day of "is it on? is it off?" phone calls and texts made by myself to Stockport and also with the Club..both teams decided to take their chances and play on a slow and in places sluggish wicket.
WCC won the toss and batted first...Lewis (31) & Martin (30) building up our score with steady and intelligent cricket knowledge, we reached a creditable total of 94, which Georgians must have felt was easliy reachable within the 20 overs and now good light.
WCC U18's continued to show that they are a force to be reckoned with this season as they came out fired up to make sure Georgians did not get near our score.
Some fantastic bowling from Johnathan Dickens (3w for 20r) Lewis (2) Jont Scott(2) & Nathan (1) and some amazing fielding from ALL the lads saw Georgians fail to reach our total as we bowled them all out for 84!! Oh! and Arran "GOOGLE" Riley...you are a STAR!!

BRING IT ON CHEADLE NEXT TUESDAY at HOME!!!
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK ALL OUR WCC JNR SIDES...YOU ARE ALL FANTASTIC!
Tracy & the Junior Coaching team.

WCC junior season has started with three losses, Tuesday evening saw WCC U18's newly formed development squad lose to a strong Didsbury side, although Didsbury proved a little too strong and surpassed WCC's total with four overs to spare, all our lads showed a good team spirit, were supportive of each other and we saw a couple of defiant performances from Lewis Crowther and Martin Leonard, a special mention goes to Leon Ritchie who took a fantastic catch on a bitterly cold evening down at Didsbury in failing light too!! Well done to all lads who have taken on the challenge to develop the U18's...the best is yet to come!!

U13's were defeated at home by Cheadle Tigers, match report by manager Ben Corrie can be read by clicking the link below:

It was also a good turn out on Friday by lots of our old & new members to watch the match & who brought their families and friends down to the club to also celebrate St. George's day...and enjoy the barbeque, refreshments & entertainment that was available throughout the evening...
Sunday's U11s were also defeated at home by Whalley Range, match report by U11's manager, Raj Arora can be read by clicking on the link below:
Sunday's U15's match away to Brooklands CC was called off at short notice by Brooklands due to overnight rain!!!
All other matches in SMJC League were unaffected and played to schedule....
U18's second match away to Newton Heath will be played on Tuesday 27th April 6pm start.

Cheers Tracy.

Exciting Pre-Season 2010 News

Hi and Welcome back to WCC Jnr's very own Blog page!
Season 2010 will be upon us very soon and I am happy to kick start our season with some exciting news about 5 of our talented junior players.
Liam Dodd, Adam Marsden, (U15's) Ryan Booth, Vaughn Corrie and Ross Crowther (U13's) have all successfully gone through the rigorous City Of Manchester selection trials (that have been taking place over the winter months) and have been selected to represent The City Of Manchester Cricket teams in their respective age groups!!
The Committee wish to offer their congratulations and good luck wishes to all players who have been selected and also to wish those who were not selected, all the best for this season..there will hopefully be other occasions for you all to shine throughout the coming season.
Junior Nets at Lancashire CC and also at Chorlton High school have been running for the past 4 weeks and have been very well supported..thanks to all who have managed to attend so far.
It is my sincere hope that next year we will be able to secure more than 3 nets at Lancs to be able to offer the excellent facilities and opportunities to more of our junior players. Which is why this year we were only able to invite 18 players to Lancs, those invited were selected by WCC coaches and were players who had been selected for trials with Manchester Boys or who showed promise last season for individual session work.
I can now announce also that Junior Registration day will be on SUNDAY 21st MARCH 2010 at the club, where you will be able to register and pay for this seasons cricket and purchase new cricket whites/clothing etc on the day. I hope to have ND Sports again in attendance to offer discounted cricket equipment (bats/pads/gloves/shoes/helmets etc etc) and look forward to seeing you all down at the Clubhouse on 21st March 12 noon til 4pm.
Many thanks again
Tracy Bailey
WCC Jnr Secretary.
