WCC Summer Cricket Camp news & Pics
Hi everyone WCC's Summer Cricket Camp is well under way and all boys and girls attending have had a great 1st week...despite a couple of occasions where rain stopped play! The first week was a roaring success with everyone completing drills, exercises and managing to get a couple of games of Diamond Cricket in too!! I have put together a snapshot of some of the kids gaining valuable cricket coaching and as you will see on their faces they ALL had a fantastic time, each receiving a 'Goody Bag' and certificate for their hard work and excellent behaviour. We are all looking forward to another week of fun and hopefully SUN from the 16th to 20th August...why not come down and join us and see for yourself? Ring Tracy on 07973491047...I will always fit anyone in.

Close of season & Summer Camp News

The Cricket Season has now drawn to a close, WCC saw the U14's get the closest to silverware this season loosing narrowly by only 20 runs to Urmston in the Semi Final, U18s lost out too in a nail biting bowl out in the quarter final to Bowdon, we all agree it's not the best way (if there is a best way?) to lose a match...but the rain and mixed weather had put a dampener on nearly all the last junior matches of season 2010.
The Junior Committee hope you have all enjoyed playing your cricket at WCC again this year or if it has been your first season that you will be returning to play cricket with us again next season. I will keep all informed throughout the winter of any events to include "soon to be announced" our FIRST WINTER INDOOR CRICKET training, hoping to start sometime in September and also details of our yearly Winter nets (start Feb 2011) by email and text, I will also announce any junior information on here and on the club's website and play cricket.com

WCC Jnr's recent results...
All the WCC Junior sides have been working hard to improve their placings in the League and also getting fired up for the SMJCL Cup matches, recent results follow:
U11's
U11's last match against Lindow abandoned RAIN (6/6/10)
U11's won away at Hale Barns by 5 wickets, strong batting again from Azure Wilkinson with 25 retired not out also taking 2 wickets for 3 runs, Jack Roberts scoring 22 runs, Josh Phillips getting a creditable 15 runs a great team performance by all. (23/5/10)
Previously U11's secured a fantastic first win against local rivals Didsbury, Azure & Owen Lewis both retiring on 25 runs and Jack Roberts scoring 22 runs and taking 3 great wickets to secure WCC's win by 27 runs. (16/5/10)
U13's
U13's last match against Woodford was a real thriller...both sides hit by the 1/2 term break saw some of their regular U13's away on holidays, so some of our U11's were drafted in to help, ALL the players from both sides played well, read Ben Corrie's match summary on:
http://wythenshawe.play-cricket.com/scoreboard/scorecard.asp?id=11032581
Vaughn taking 4 wickets for 21 runs and retiring not out on 30, Ryan Booth also retired not out on 31 and Ross getting an LBW on 28..all the U11's who played 'up' in 13's gave a great account of themselves. (5/6/10)
Previously U13's had a resounding success over Timperley as our lads trounced them all out for only 29 runs off 11.2 overs, Ross Crowther taking the match ball with an amazing 5 wickets for 5 runs haul!! WCC didn't have to stay at the crease for long to roll out the required runs to seal a very easy walkover...Well done All! (28/5/10)
Two weeks previously U13's had sealed another win over local rivals Didsbury winning by 6 wickets, Ross Crowther (30 rtd) and Ryan Booth (18) putting on the runs for WCC, chasing Didsbury's total of 83, some excellent fielding and bowling saw Didsbury have to work really hard to reach 83, wickets falling for Ross (2) Vaughn (2) Jai Arora (1) Jont Scott (1) and Sam Grant (1) WCC's batsmen chased every ball and sealed the win with just 2 balls left!! Great effort lads.
Not such good luck in the cup! U13's losing to Bowdon by 2 runs!! Hard Luck lads you ALL played great and we all thought we were so close to a victory...next time eh?
U15's
Mixed bag for WCC's U15's, with 3 of their scheduled 7 matches so far being abandoned for rain or wet pitches!!
There is some joy though as U15's had a great win at Ashley CC (2/5/10) winning by 28 runs, Adam Marsden (15) and Michael Taylor (19) getting the majority of WCC's runs, Adam, Jont and Leon getting 2 wickets each to ensure the U15's snatched their first win of the season.
Losing 3 of the 4 matches actually played sees the U15's mid table at this point in the season...lets hope the weather bucks up and they can start getting to actually PLAY some cricket!!
U18's
Fantastic news so far...sees U18's holding joint 3rd place in the league on 15 points with Romiley & Stockport Georgians...an amazing start for our development 18's squad captained by Martin Leonard, has seen the lads secure 3 wins, 1 tie and 3 losses to deservedly stand in 3rd place.
Match against Woodford (see previous blog) was an amazing feat, yet we were to be treated to yet another thriller on Tuesday 8th June as we took on Stockport Georgians at home, after a day of "is it on? is it off?" phone calls and texts made by myself to Stockport and also with the Club..both teams decided to take their chances and play on a slow and in places sluggish wicket.
WCC won the toss and batted first...Lewis (31) & Martin (30) building up our score with steady and intelligent cricket knowledge, we reached a creditable total of 94, which Georgians must have felt was easliy reachable within the 20 overs and now good light.
WCC U18's continued to show that they are a force to be reckoned with this season as they came out fired up to make sure Georgians did not get near our score.
Some fantastic bowling from Johnathan Dickens (3w for 20r) Lewis (2) Jont Scott(2) & Nathan (1) and some amazing fielding from ALL the lads saw Georgians fail to reach our total as we bowled them all out for 84!! Oh! and Arran "GOOGLE" Riley...you are a STAR!!

WCC Family Fun Day Dad's vs Kids Match
On Monday 31st May (Bank Holiday) WCC Jnr's challenged their Dad's to a "FUN" Cricket Match....needless to say all the Dad's were going to take it easy on the kids...because that's what Dad's do isn't it??
Well nothing could be further from the truth!!
The Dad's came onto the field like Gladiators...all in their neatly pressed flannels and designer sunglasses...ready to do battle with their offspring!
No ball was bowled softly, no shot was played with perhaps the hint of a catch...and the Dad's continued to throw their heart and soul into finishing off the kids!! Finishing on 91..(pairs cricket scoring used..5 runs lost for each wicket down)...a line of determined kids now sat around the boundary as one by one they met their Dad's on the pitch....all the kids played valiantly and not downhearted they joined in with the spirit of the game....from a minus score (from losing so many wickets initially) the kids slowly but surely started to get back into the game...finishing on a creditable 65!!
A rematch is on the cards...and we will be advertising for willing sacrifices (oops sorry) volunteers to join the kids and Dad's for the return....
WATCH THIS SPACE!!
