WCC U18's take Woodford right to the wire!!!

" Nathan celebrates his 72 Not Out with Lewis"
A sterling team performance from WCC's U18's tonight (Tues 11th May) away to Woodford CC, saw WCC once again chasing a near impossible total of 148! WCC are certainly keeping their die-hard spectators on the edge of their seats this season....with two close run high scoring matches in a row! Of which we WON BOTH!!!
Tonight saw Capt. Martin Leonard limp his way through the opening overs, calling for a runner as a pulled thigh muscle restricted him from chasing down the required runs, getting out to a catch from one of Woodford's fielders who took some great catches from a couple of sloppy swings....WCC needed to stabilise the innings and Nathan Bailey & Ahmed (Kaka) started to keep things ticking over mid-innings. Kaka knocking out a few fours in his excellent innings of 25 and Nathan keeping a stranglehold on the Woodford attack...swinging his bat with swordlike flourishes...sixes flying around the ground..."Boom! Boom! Bailey" was the cry from his WCC teammates.

With two overs to go and WCC needed 16 0ff 12 balls....Adam Marsden took on the Woodford lads and ran singles to keep Nathan on strike....ball past through to slips and Adam's wicket went...Luke Hibbert came on to see out the last two overs...Nathan, seeing it was getting darker by the second...decided to crack out a huge six to seal the game! WCC finishing on a Fantastic 154!!

"Boom Boom!".....Well done to ALL the lads who offered some great cheering on from the sides..."will a win...and we WILL win!!
Just BELIEVE!!!

FULL HOUSE OF WINS FOR WCC JNR'S

Well done all junior sides this week, after you all secured your first wins of season 2010.
U15's away to Ashley CC reached a total of 98 for 8 wickets, Ashley chased in vain closing their batting on 70 for 7 wickets, a good consistent bowling attack from WCC enabled them to keep Ashley's batsmen from getting the required runs.
U18's next and what a THRILLER!! At home to Romiley, WCC were left a little reeling from a strong batting performance from a well disciplined Romiley outfit who went into the changing rooms at the break on a grand total of 142 for 2 wickets!! They must have thought they had it "In the Bag!" but never underestimate the lads from WCC! Out marched Kyle Murphy and Capt. Martin Leonard, from ball one they chased Romiley hard and runs were being knocked up at a blistering pace!! Kyle getting out to an LBW at a fantastic 67...he came off to well deserved standing ovation, Martin continued to keep turning the screw on Romiley leading WCC off the field with a 42 not out, WCC the victors, getting the required 143 total with 3 balls to spare!!
U11's won their friendly against Brooklands at the Sale Moor ground, with some good batting from Owen Lewis and Azure Wilkinson, strong bowling from Keenan Ritchie and Adam Barnes, Bailey Bennett and Owen Rawding saw U11's get their first win too!
& Finally the U13's won away to Didsbury, with Ross Crowther again getting most of WCC's runs retiring on 30 not out, wickets fell for Didsbury as Vaughn Corrie, Ross Crowther, Jonathan Scott and Jai Arora put the pressure on to Didsbury with some fine bowling. WCC chased every ball to reach the total of 83 set by Didsbury and reached the required runs with 3 balls to spare!!
GREAT results for ALL WCC junior sides this week.....WELL DONE ALL!!

WCC junior season has started with three losses, Tuesday evening saw WCC U18's newly formed development squad lose to a strong Didsbury side, although Didsbury proved a little too strong and surpassed WCC's total with four overs to spare, all our lads showed a good team spirit, were supportive of each other and we saw a couple of defiant performances from Lewis Crowther and Martin Leonard, a special mention goes to Leon Ritchie who took a fantastic catch on a bitterly cold evening down at Didsbury in failing light too!! Well done to all lads who have taken on the challenge to develop the U18's...the best is yet to come!!

U13's were defeated at home by Cheadle Tigers, match report by manager Ben Corrie can be read by clicking the link below:

It was also a good turn out on Friday by lots of our old & new members to watch the match & who brought their families and friends down to the club to also celebrate St. George's day...and enjoy the barbeque, refreshments & entertainment that was available throughout the evening...
Sunday's U11s were also defeated at home by Whalley Range, match report by U11's manager, Raj Arora can be read by clicking on the link below:
Sunday's U15's match away to Brooklands CC was called off at short notice by Brooklands due to overnight rain!!!
